Cinnamon Toast
Buttered bread with cinnamon sugar, broiled until the top crackles. The original. No cereal box required.
Ingredients
- •4 slices bread
- •2 tbsp butter, softened
- •2 tbsp granulated sugar
- •1 tsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
- 1
Turn your oven broiler to high and position the rack about 6 inches from the heating element.
- 2
In a small bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon together.
- 3
Spread each slice of bread with a thin, even layer of softened butter — edge to edge. Do not skip the edges or they will burn before the center toasts.
- 4
Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar generously over the buttered bread. Use all of it.
- 5
Place the slices on a baking sheet and slide under the broiler.
- 6
Watch it closely — this takes only 2-3 minutes. The sugar should bubble and the edges of the bread should be golden. Pull it the moment it looks right. Broilers are unforgiving.
- 7
Let it cool for one minute (the sugar is molten), then eat.
