
Mackerel on Toast
Canned mackerel flaked onto toast with hot sauce and lemon. More protein than you would expect, zero cooking required, and genuinely good eating.
Ingredients
- •1 can (15 oz) mackerel, drained and flaked
- •2 slices bread, toasted
- •1 tsp hot sauce
- •1/2 lemon, juiced
- •1 tsp olive oil
- •Salt and black pepper to taste

Drain the mackerel and place it in a bowl. Remove any large bones or skin pieces if you prefer, though both are perfectly edible and nutritious.

Flake the fish with a fork and drizzle with the olive oil, hot sauce, and lemon juice.

Toss gently to combine. Season with salt and pepper.

Toast your bread until it is firm enough to hold the topping without going soggy.
